Airstream
An iconic brand of polished-aluminum travel trailers, manufactured since 1931. Often synonymous with vintage trailer aesthetics.
Also called: Airstream trailer, silver bullet, polished aluminum trailer
Airstream is a brand of travel trailer manufactured by Airstream Inc. since 1931. The polished-aluminum exterior and rivet construction are iconic — most renters recognize an Airstream on sight.
In the rental context, Airstream means three things:
- Premium rental pricing. Airstreams rent for 30–60% more than equivalent-size conventional travel trailers — driven by brand value, not material specs.
- Concentrated on peer-to-peer platforms. Outdoorsy and RVshare have most Airstream inventory. Corporate fleets don’t carry them.
- Vintage inventory exists. Some peer-to-peer owners rent restored Airstreams from the 1960s-1980s. Charming for some renters; ask about modern system upgrades.
Current Airstream model rental rates (2026)
- Bambi (16 ft) — $185–$245/night
- Caravel (22 ft) — $215–$285/night
- International (23–28 ft) — $245–$345/night
- Classic (30+ ft) — $295–$425/night
- Vintage (any era) — wildly variable, $145–$395/night
What renters should verify
- Year of build and any restoration work on vintage units
- Electrical system age (older Airstreams have 1970s wiring unless restored)
- Brake system condition (older units may have manual electric brakes only)
- Tow vehicle compatibility — Airstreams are heavier than they look due to all-aluminum construction
